Mind's Eye Performance
Mind’s Eye Performance
The clients that come to Mind’s Eye Performance are all talented athletes who have worked extremely hard: thrown thousands of passes, shot thousands of baskets, done thousands of reps in the weight room and run countless miles. However, my experience has shown that many high school athletes have done little to develop their mental game.  This is an aspect of competition known to coaches to separate great athletes from good athletes. The potential for growth in this area is immense.

Most high school athletes don’t even know what the mental aspect of competing is. Words like “focus” and “concentration” are things they’ve heard from the sidelines at youth games, but these are tools and concepts that are not well understood when it comes to application. Developing athletes need to be taught how to use the mental tools that will help them maximize their potential.

The Development of the Mental Game: A fundamental component of the Mental Game is knowing yourself as a unique athlete, both physically and emotionally. It is:

  •  Understanding your Self Talk and how it builds your confidence or tears it down, how it gets you back on track or completely derails you.
  •  Knowing what interferes with your Concentration (internally and externally) and how to get yourself Focused in any situation.
  •   Knowing how to use your brain, via Mental Imagery, to practice making the perfect pass or shot.
  • Understanding your Activation Level and knowing how to get yourself going or how to slow yourself down.
  • Having Mental Routines for the week of a game, the day of the game, and the game itself.
  •  Understanding Emotional Controls so you can let go of mistakes instantly and stay in your Zone of Optimal Functioning.
Athletes will know they have reached their fullest potential – whether that’s to play at the varsity level, the college level or beyond when they can answer “yes” to the following questions:

1.      Did I get as strong as I could?
2.      Did I get as fast as I could?
3.      Did I get as skilled at my position as I could?
4.      Was I coachable – did I learn as much as I could about my sport and position? And,
5.      Did I maximize my mental capacity for training and competing?

This last question addresses the most neglected area in the development of the teenage athlete. Mind’s Eye Performance can, and will, help every athlete answer this with a definitive “yes!”
