Welcome

Therapy is a collaboration. A therapist brings his or her expertise into each session - their experience, training, and innate abilities. Clients also bring their expertise into sessions - their experiences, self-awareness, and innate abilities. When these two “experts” come together its called therapy. When these two “experts” effectively join forces in a safe and supportive environment it’s deemed therapeutic and incredible things can happen.

Incredible things can come from the smallest change. Subtle changes in the way a person thinks, feels and acts can have a major impact on how they deal with challenges and experience life in general. In my practice we work to create an environment that is conducive to change, an environment where hope is rekindled and clients begin to really believe things can be different and better.

My philosophy is fundamentally humanistic. That is, I believe clients arrive at my office with qualities and abilities that can get them through the most difficult challenges and ultimately lead them to a productive and satisfying life. There have been numerous strengths in every person I have ever worked with. People seek help when they are unable to fully utilize these strengths on their own, strengths that may be buried by grief or sadness; overtaxed by stress and anxiety; hidden by a lack of confidence; distorted by the past; paralyzed by the future; obscured by substance abuse; or overrun by anger.

My approach to therapy is pragmatic. We do what we must to get where we want to go, and we do it in a manner that suits the client best. There may be times when we roll up our sleeves and problem solve, times when we learn and explore, times when we endure and support, and times when we motivate and challenge. It is likely that therapy will be all of these at some point. In time, often sooner than was believed possible, clients become more aware of, and confident in, the abilities and wisdom they brought with them in the first place. They’ve changed, they move on, and incredible things happen.

You can do this!
